Landon’s Farm-to-Table Food and Childcare
I wish Landon’s Gourmet Kitchen had been in business when my 3 kids were small. It is a brilliant idea.
In a nutshell, the idea is that it is a farm-to-table restaurant with incredible food and in another room they provide childcare for a fee so that you can enjoy your night out without the stress of finding a babysitter. The kids are happy, safe and having fun and you are seconds away from them if you need to see them.
By the way, if you do not have kids or yours are grown, don’t let the idea of them having childcare on the premise put you off. This is a beautiful place that is comfortable to hang around in and the food was magnificent. More on the childcare later but first I want to tell you about the food.
The Food and Bar
The first time my husband and I went was just for a drink at the bar on a Friday night. It was a cute place and I enjoyed their wine. My husband enjoyed the local beers. He thought that they had chosen well. They had only been open a week.
The place is cute with its gray floors and reclaimed wood beams.
Today we went back for lunch. They have now been open 3 weeks. The restaurant is similar to several farm-to-table restaurants that I’ve been to in that you order up at the front, get a number and the food is delivered.
You can see the menu online. Ron had the The Envirnomentalist Salad $11 (Everything Green! Mixed green leaves, scallions, avocado, celery, parsley, cilantro, cucumber, capers, served in a green goddess dressing.) Ron added a bit of chicken. He would have done the Salmon but it had been sold out. He loved the salad.
I had the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich. (Buttermilk fried chicken breast, cabbage slaw, roasted sweet onions and spicy pickles on a warm bun) for $11. My chicken sandwich was amazing. I’m craving it again as I write this. It was fresh with a bit of a spicy slaw, pickles and a roasted sweet onion relish. Even the bun was exceptional. I ordered a side salad with it and the lettuces and other vegetables were super fresh. This was one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. The slaw and pickles are usually on the sandwich but I asked for them on the side. I did put it on the sandwich and it was meant to be eaten together. It complimented the chicken perfectly.
I have to say the chicken was done so well that it reminds me of the Crack Shack’s chicken in Encinitas by celebrity chef Richard Blais which is also amazing.
Ron loved the ice tea. He could tell it had been freshly brewed and it was a nice dark color. He was very happy. I had water which I was able to pour myself and add as many lemon slices as I liked.
I saw chocolate mousse with Zabaglione on the menu and I had to try it. Wow, it was amazing. The perfect balance of flavors and the right amount of sweetness. I couldn’t get enough of it. Sorry, it was so darn good that it was nearly gone when Ron finally mentioned I should take a photo of it. Believe me, it was spectacular!
Childcare – the Playroom
If you do have kids you will be thrilled to know that there is a restaurant you can go to that has a separate room and staff to watch your child or children for a fee. From their website:
Landon’s supervised Playroom is a safe and secure place for parents to leave their children to ensure parents are given the opportunity to have as much adult time as possible. Children will be encouraged to read books, make arts and crafts, participate in group activities, and do homework.
Alternatively, video games, iPads, and movies will also be available upon request and parents can set a limited “screen time” for their child. Parents and guardians must remain on premises for the duration of stay. Landon’s is not a licensed childcare facility.
Overall, the restaurant is a winner. Food is fresh and high quality. I’m excited that someone thought to help out the parents who can’t find babysitters.
Tips and Location:
Landon’s Gourmet Kitchen, 1020 W San Marcos Blvd, San Marcos, CA 92078
The restaurant is in the middle of Restaurant Row in San Marcos which is close to San Marcos Blvd and Rancho Santa Fe Road. A block away is the 18-plex movie theater. If you are staying close to Legoland you’ll find it to be about a 15 minute drive inland.
Take a look at the website before you go to see the hours and more details of the childcare.
One tip, if you sign up to be on their mail list through their website you’ll get a 10% off coupon. Enjoy, have fun and please let the staff know that you heard about them from Sheri’s Thing To Do in San Diego.
Note: I want to mention that I did not receive any kind of compensation, discounts or freebies for highlighting this restaurant. My goal is to find the places that I love and bring them to you. I don’t want to be influenced so the restaurants are not notified until after I’ve eaten there and have chosen to highlight them. They do not pay to be listed here.
